GrindingHub NEWS 1/5: SCHNEEBERGER’s Norma Alpha Takes Center Stage
SCHNEEBERGER’s best-selling 5-axis CNC grinding machine has been redesigned. Everything the Norma is known for has been improved. The complete redesign, featuring 80% new components, resulting in a grinding machine that is exceptionally stable, precise, and dynamic. What remains is the flexibility and versatility of applications that the Norma is known for.
The Norma Alpha offers more space for big ambitions. Linear motors with travel ranges of X 480, Y 400, and Z 340 mm; the spindle-side C-axis and direct-drive A-axis are optimally positioned. With a 10% larger working volume, a wide range of grinding applications can be successfully performed. The 1260 mm long T-slot worktable allows for flexible arrangement of the workpiece, clamping devices, and various options such as a dresser, tailstock, and steady rest. All this in an extremely compact machine design.
The Norma Alpha boasts the latest components from Fanuc’s D-generation. The dynamic LiS-D linear motors in the X, Y, and Z axes move with extreme precision thanks to optimized feed smoothness. Grinding applications thus achieve a new level of efficiency, precision, and surface quality. The servo motors of the same generation bring the same technology to rotary movements, thereby helping the C-axis achieve new levels of performance. A significant boost in performance combined with wear-free drives and a 10% reduction in energy consumption results in a cost-effective overall solution.
The 6-axis robotic workpiece loader, available with 2 or 4 pallets, and the 7x wheel pack changer ensure autonomy for the modern production machine.
