Long-distance victory for ULMI Cycling Team at the toughest TORTOUR yet
Two teams successfully took part in the most famous of all Swiss ultracycling races: a 2-person mixed team over 500km and a 2-man men's team over 1000km. Once again this year, the athletes were able to count on the support of J. SCHNEEBERGER Maschinen AG.
Lots of rain and low temperatures for the time of year made for particularly tough conditions. Nevertheless, most of the athletes did not shy away from the starting line in Küsnacht and fought their way through wind and weather to the finish line. “In terms of the weather, it was one of the toughest events for me,” says René Zihler, employee of J. Schneeberger AG and 7-time TORTOUR participant. Particularly in the night to Saturday, exceptionally large amounts of rain led to occasional flooding. The low temperatures in the mountains once again presented the athletes and support staff with extraordinary challenges.
The 2-man men's team rode the 1003 km, 14,958 vertical meters in a time of 41 hours 35 minutes and achieved an impressive average speed of 24.2 km/h to finish in 1st place. This was the second-fastest time across all long-distance categories.
The 2-person mixed team rode the 515 km, 6,924 vertical meters in the time of 24 hours 09 minutes and reached the finish line with an average speed of 21.4 km/h in 2nd place and 4th place in the overall ranking.
SCHNEEBERGER, proud co-sponsor of the team, congratulates them warmly!
