Live from GrindTec, Day 3: Competition Tool Grinder of the Year in full swing
In the competition arena at the SCHNEEBERGER booth, the hot phase has begun in the battle for the title Tool Grinder of the Year. The preliminary round has been completed, and in the second part of the competition, the trade magazine Fertigung and the FDPW will select the over-all winner.
In the first round, each candidate produces a tapered milling cutter with 4 cutting wings, including two center cutting wings. In addition, a Weldon surface is ground on the tool shank using STEP import. Thanks to SCHNEEBERGER Qg1 software, the tools are programmed in no time.
The tools are then evaluated by the expert jury and the two best participants are selected for the final duel. "Tool grinder of the year" will be whoever produces another tool in the highest quality and in the shortest time. The task now is to program and grind an HSC end mill with 4 wings and a center cutting wing on a SCHNEEBERGER Aries NGP live and in front of the interested trade show audience. An additional challenge is given by an external thread to be ground on the tool shank by STEP-import.
Felix Conrad and Maximilian Ullermann made it to the finals. They will face each other at 3 o’clock and fight for the victory of the prestigious competition.
The Aries NGP is the most compact SCHNEEBERGER 5-axis grinding machine. Ideal for regrinding tools and, thanks to the integrated robot, ideally suited for the efficient production of small and medium batch sizes. All this is realized on the footprint of a tool cabinet.
Stay tuned with SCHNEEBERGER, live from Augsburg. Hall 3, booth 3096.
